Passengers travelling by train in October, particularly during Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath Puja, should check their train status before travelling. Indian Railways has cancelled several services because of track doubling, third-line construction, yard remodelling and station redevelopment work.

The cancellations are linked to infrastructure and engineering works being carried out across different railway zones. The South East Railway’s Chakradharpur Division is among the areas facing extensive disruption, with express, passenger and MEMU services affected on different dates.

Other affected sections include the Bina-Agasaud corridor, where third-line work is taking place, and the Ajmer Division, where track-doubling work is affecting several services.

The cancellations cover different dates in October, while some services are also affected from late September.

South East Railway: Chakradharpur Division

A large number of services in the Chakradharpur Division have been cancelled on specific dates.

  • The 12811/12812 LTT-Hatia Superfast will not operate on October 10 and 12. The 58151/58152 Barsuan-Birmitrapur Passenger will remain cancelled from October 4 to 15.
  • The 18309/18310 Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express will not operate on October 6, 8, 9 and 11. The 18109/18110 Tatanagar-Itwari Express is cancelled from October 4 to 7 and again from October 11 to 14.
  • The 12871/12872 Howrah-Junagadh Road Ispat Express will not run on October 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 and 13. The 18175/18176 Hatia-Jharsuguda Express and 18601/18602 Hatia-Tatanagar Express are cancelled from October 4 to 7 and October 11 to 14.
  • The 58659/58660 Hatia-Rourkela Passenger will not operate from October 3 to 12. The 22843/22844 Bilaspur-Buxar Superfast is cancelled on October 9 and 10.
  • The 18113/18114 Tatanagar-Bilaspur Express and 22861/22862 Howrah-Kantabanji Ispat Express are cancelled from October 4 to 7 and October 11 to 14.
  • The 68025/68026 Rourkela-Chakradharpur Saranda MEMU is cancelled from October 4 to 7 and October 11 to 15.
  • The 18049/18050 Shalimar-Badampahar Weekly Express will not run on October 3 and 10, with its return service cancelled on October 4 and 11. The 18051/18052 Badampahar-Rourkela Express and return are also cancelled on October 4 and 11.
  • The 18451/18452 Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express will not operate on October 13. The 15027/15028 Sambalpur-Gorakhpur Maurya Express is cancelled on October 12 and 14.
  • The 12767/12768 Hazur Sahib Nanded-Santragachi Superfast will not operate on October 12 and 14, while the 18105/18106 Rourkela-Jaynagar Express is cancelled on October 10 and 11.
  • The 18641/18642 Hatia-Durg Express will not run on October 13 and 14. The 12835/12836 Hatia-SMVT Bengaluru Superfast is cancelled on October 13 and 15.
  • The 68043/68044 Tatanagar-Rourkela MEMU will not operate from October 4 to 13. The 12261/12262 Mumbai CSMT-Howrah Duronto Express is cancelled on October 13 and 14.

West Central and North Central Railway

Third-line construction between Bina and Agasaud is affecting several services, including trains operating on the Bhopal-Delhi corridor.

  • The 64617/64618 Bina-Lalitpur MEMU is cancelled from September 20 to October 15. The 64619/64620 Bina-Katni Mudwara MEMU is cancelled from September 28 to October 15.
  • The 12191/12192 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Jabalpur Shridham Express is also affected from late September into October. The 12197/12198 Bhopal-Gwalior Intercity will not operate from October 1 to 15.

Other services affected on different dates include the Rani Kamlapati-Santragachi Humsafar Express, Bhopal-Damoh Rajyarani Express and Bhopal-Khajuraho Mahamana Express.

North Western Railway: Ajmer Division

Track-doubling work in the Ajmer Division is affecting services connecting Rajasthan with parts of southern and western India.

  • The 17605/17606 Kacheguda-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express is cancelled on October 2 and 5, while the return service is cancelled on October 4 and 7.
  • The 18801/18802 Jodhpur-Indore Express will not operate on October 9 and 11. The 19606 Udaipur City-Mandar Express is cancelled on October 8.

What passengers should do

October coincides with several major festivals and is traditionally a busy period for railway travel. With alternative trains likely to have limited availability, passengers holding tickets for affected services should verify their train status before travelling.

The latest status can be checked through the National Train Enquiry System, the RailMadad helpline at 139 or the IRCTC Rail Connect app.

Passengers whose trains have been cancelled are entitled to a full refund, subject to the applicable railway refund process.

Travellers should also check whether their service has been partially curtailed rather than completely cancelled. In such cases, the train may terminate at a station earlier than the original destination, requiring passengers to make alternative arrangements.
