Kannur: The Indian Railways implemented its latest fare revision starting Friday (December 26). The increase affects Express and Superfast trains, as well as certain long-distance second-class tickets, while short-distance travellers in sleeper and AC chair classes remain largely unaffected.

This is the second fare hike of 2025, following a previous revision in June.

What’s changed

Express trains: Minimum fare for short journeys (50 km) increased by ₹5, from ₹30 to ₹35.

Superfast trains: Minimum fare increased by ₹5, from ₹45 to ₹50.

Long-distance second-class ordinary tickets (500 km): Fare increased by ₹5.

Sleeper class tickets for short journeys (200 km) remain unchanged at ₹150.
