With the results pointing to a victory for the NDA, Union Minister Giriraj Singh declared that the alliance’s "next target" is West Bengal.

Patna: As the counting of votes in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 continues, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has surged ahead, crossing the majority mark and securing a commanding lead. With trends pointing to a clear NDA victory, Union Minister Giriraj Singh announced that the alliance’s “next target” is West Bengal.
Speaking to ANI, Giriraj Singh hailed the Bihar electorate for supporting the NDA, saying, "I was saying from day one that we would have a landslide victory in Bihar. The people of Bihar were always enthusiastic about this government. They have voted for peace, justice, and development."

He added, "Bihar has spoken – decisively rejecting a government rooted in anarchy. The youth of Bihar are wise, and this victory is of development. We've won in Bihar, and now it’s Bengal’s turn."
Singh attributed the NDA’s success to the public’s desire for stability, peace and good governance, contrasting it with earlier turbulent periods during RJD’s rule. He noted that although many of today’s youth may not have witnessed earlier turbulent periods, their elders had seen the disorder that briefly emerged when Tejashwi Yadav was part of the state government.
With the counting still underway, the available leads show that the BJP-led NDA has surpassed the majority threshold of 122 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. The NDA is currently leading in 190 seats, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan, headed by Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), is trailing with leads in 35 seats.
Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party is performing poorly.
Exit polls hinted at a strong performance for the NDA, with many predicting that the BJP would emerge as the single-largest party. An aggregate of nine exit polls had suggested the NDA would secure 147 seats, while the Grand Alliance led by the RJD would win around 90 seats. Specifically, the RJD was expected to secure between 57 and 69 seats, a decrease from its 75-seat tally in the previous election. The Congress, which had won 19 seats in 2020, was forecast to drop to 14 seats. Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party was expected to win just one seat.
The final results will not only decide the political future of Bihar but also determine whether Nitish Kumar, the state’s longest-serving chief minister, will retain his position for a fifth consecutive term.
