Patna: After weeks of negotiations and internal bickering, the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have finalised their seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, NDTV reported, citing sources.

As part of the compromise, the RJD will contest 135 seats, a reduction from its earlier demand of 144, while the Congress will field candidates in 61 constituencies, down from the 70 it had initially sought.

The remaining seats in the 243-member assembly will be shared among the Left Front and Mukesh Sahni’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP). The Left Front, comprising the CPI(ML), CPI, and CPM, is expected to get 29–31 seats, while the VIP will contest 16.

Earlier, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had announced its own seat distribution. The BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will field candidates in 29 constituencies. The Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest six seats each.

Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party on Monday released its second list of candidates, covering 65 constituencies, including 19 reserved seats (18 SC and one ST).

The deadline for filing nominations for the first phase of polling is October 17. Bihar will vote in two phases, on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14.
