A late-night drive turned into a scene of devastation as three young cousins lost their lives after their speeding car smashed into a bridge divider in Bihar, leaving one survivor critically injured.

Three young cousins were killed and a fourth critically injured early Tuesday morning when their car smashed into a bridge divider near Kathar on the Ekangarsarai–Jehanabad main road in Bihar’s Nalanda district.
The horrific crash occurred around 3 a.m. as the four youths were returning from a friend’s tilak ceremony in Masodha, Patna district. Police say the speeding vehicle lost control while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle, resulting in a violent collision with the concrete divider near the Kathar bridge.

The force of the impact left the car mangled and the victims badly crushed. Two of the cousins died on the spot, and a third succumbed to severe injuries en route to the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Sonu Kumar (21), Rohit Kumar (22), and Uddeshya (18) — all cousins and residents of Teni Bigha village in Jehanabad district.
The lone survivor, 19-year-old Suraj, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was initially treated at a local facility before being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced care.
Shocked villagers gathered at Teni Bigha as news of the tragedy spread, with relatives describing the deaths as a devastating blow to the community.
Police have taken possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination, while an investigation is underway to determine whether speed or road conditions contributed to the crash.
The incident once again highlights the peril of excessive speed and risky overtaking on Bihar’s often poorly lit highways, prompting calls from residents for improved road safety measures.
