Air India is set to deploy its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Mumbai–Frankfurt route starting February 1, 2026, marking a significant step in the airline’s fleet modernisation plan. This aircraft is the airline’s first “line-fit” Dreamliner, delivered directly from Boeing with customised cabin interiors already installed.

The Mumbai–Frankfurt route connects India’s financial capital with Germany’s main international gateway and is one of Air India’s busiest European services. The Dreamliner will feature three cabin classes—Business, Premium Economy, and Economy—providing passengers more comfort choices for the over-eight-hour journey.

The Boeing 787-9 is designed for passenger comfort, with improved cabin air pressure and humidity to reduce fatigue, larger dimmable windows, quieter interiors, and modern seating with upgraded in-flight entertainment systems. These features are expected to make long-haul travel smoother for both business and leisure travellers.

Frankfurt Airport, a major European hub, offers easy onward connections across Germany, the UK, France, Spain, and other parts of Europe, giving passengers on Air India’s Dreamliner service access to a wide European network.

The 787-9 is also more fuel-efficient and operationally reliable, helping reduce technical delays and improve on-time performance. While fares may be higher initially due to demand and upgraded features, early booking is advised. All operations are approved and monitored by India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ensuring safety and operational standards.

Air India’s Dreamliner launch reflects its broader efforts to modernise its fleet, enhance passenger experience, and strengthen India–Europe air connectivity.
