An AI-powered self-driving electric vehicle, autonomous EV, and GPS-enabled navigation system developed by engineering students at Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology in Karnataka's Mangaluru is attracting attention during campus trials. Named Sri Vahan, the retrofitted six-seater electric vehicle operates on pre-mapped routes and can travel up to 20 kilometres on a single charge.

Built under the guidance of faculty members at an estimated cost of approximately ₹5 lakh, the vehicle has been created by modifying an existing electric vehicle instead of building one from scratch. For safety, it features an inbuilt system that allows a human operator to take control whenever required.
