The Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad is set to return with a bigger sporting programme while highly reducing hosting costs under a newly reimagined model.

Commonwealth Sport CEO Katie Sadleir announced that Ahmedabad 2030 will feature 17 sports, marking a major expansion from the scaled-down Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The programme is being finalised in collaboration with Indian sporting authorities and government officials.

The new hosting framework aims to cut costs by nearly 60 per cent compared to previous editions, making the event more affordable and sustainable. Glasgow 2026, which stepped in after Victoria withdrew due to rising expenses, is expected to cost around £160 million compared with Birmingham 2022's £780 million budget.

Organisers say existing infrastructure, public transport and environmentally focused operations will shape future Games. Officials believe the new approach will encourage more Commonwealth nations to bid for hosting opportunities.
