Born in Raipur, Bhumika’s initial dreams were far removed from the glitz of the runway. Since childhood, she aspired to a career in the Civil Services. This ambition was partly fueled by the relentless bullying she faced from her fellow villagers.

Possessing a tall frame and a deep, dark complexion, she became a target for constant body shaming. People cruelly labelled her 'Kali' (the dark one). Yet, amidst the taunts and the prejudice, Bhumika remained steadfast, focusing on her studies and her future.

The chance encounter

The turning point in her life happened quite unexpectedly. While walking through the streets of Raipur, she caught the eye of Ninja Singh, the founder of a model management company. Ninja immediately recognised Bhumika’s raw potential and the striking features that the fashion world would later adore. That meeting marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

Conquering the global stage

After rigorous training and collaborating with various agencies, Bhumika made her debut on the Paris runway at the age of just 19. Representing Chanel, she broke barriers as the youngest Indian to ever walk for the brand—a feat she has since repeated three times.

Her success didn't stop there; she has graced the prestigious pages of American Vogue and is currently signed with top-tier international modelling agencies.

"The colour of one's skin, or any such physical trait, should never be a criterion for success on these platforms," Bhumika asserts.

Today, the same features that were once the subject of local mockery are celebrated on the world's most elite stages, proving that true beauty and talent know no bounds.
