Kochi: Malayalam actor Jayasurya appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Kochi on Monday regarding a probe under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The actor, accompanied by his wife, is reportedly cooperating with officials while clarifying his involvement with the Save Box app, which is under investigation for financial irregularities.

Following this the ED has frozen assets worth ₹39 lakh linked to Jayasurya following an examination of payments received for his role as a brand ambassador, according to officials. Save Box, an online auction platform, promised high returns to users who purchased virtual coins to bid on electronic gadgets. Investors later complained of losing substantial sums, prompting police action in 2023 and the arrest of founder Swathiq Rahim in Thrissur.

Investigators questioned Jayasurya about the terms of his endorsement agreement, the payments received, and whether he had knowledge of the company’s internal operations. He was also given time to submit financial documents related to his association with the platform.

The central government has reportedly instructed agencies to intensify action against online platforms accused of misleading investors, emphasizing that endorsers could face consequences if they knowingly participated in deceptive campaigns.

The ED’s investigation is ongoing, with authorities tracking financial transactions and reviewing the involvement of all individuals associated with the Save Box app.
