Kochi: Actor Jayasurya may be questioned again by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Save Box app investment scam. The actor was previously questioned after suspicions arose that funds he received from the company were linked to the alleged fraud.

Further investigations may lead to attachment proceedings, and the probe is expected to expand to include other celebrities.

Jayasurya was called to the ED office in Kochi along with his wife Saritha. This follows a previous questioning last Wednesday.

The Save Box app, launched in 2019, promoted the purchase of electronic devices at discounted rates through online auctions. Celebrities, including Jayasurya, were chief guests at the app’s launch. The company was run by Swathiq Rahim from Thrissur’s Kuttur Pottaore MK Gardens. Participation in the auction required virtual coins purchased through the app.

Swathiq Rahim collected lakhs from investors by promising franchise opportunities, monthly profits up to ₹25 lakh, and company shares. The scam came to light after a complaint by a resident of Thrissur, who alleged that Swathiq Rahim had received ₹21 lakh from him. Subsequent complaints led to Swathik’s arrest by Thrissur East Police in January 2023.

Following Central Government directives to take strict action against online financial scams, the ED initiated a case into Save Box. ED suspects that Jayasurya had a contract to be the brand ambassador for Save Box.
