Celebrated Tamil filmmaker Ram has said that much like the recent success of Manjummel Boys, Malayalam actor Mammootty’s films have enjoyed significant popularity in Tamil Nadu over the years. Citing examples such as Iyer the Great, New Delhi, and Hitler, Ram noted that these films were well-received by Tamil audiences.

Ram was speaking in an interview with a YouTube channel, during which he shared insights into his collaboration with Mammootty on the critically acclaimed 2018 film Peranbu.

Responding to a question on how Mammootty came to be cast in Peranbu, Ram said:

“I grew up watching Mammuka’s (Mammootty’s) films. He has acted in every kind of film — from action-packed roles to deeply emotional characters. His versatility is unmatched.”

He further added:

“Mammootty’s films perform well in Tamil Nadu. Just like Manjummel Boys recently captured the imagination of audiences here, films like Iyer the Great, New Delhi, and Hitler also ran successfully in Tamil Nadu. Everyone here knows Mammukka.”

Ram’s comments come at a time when cross-industry appreciation between Malayalam and Tamil cinema is increasingly evident, with audiences embracing films across linguistic boundaries.

Meanwhile, the director’s latest film, Paranthu Po, featuring Shiva alongside prominent Malayalam actors Grace Antony and Aju Varghese, is currently enjoying a successful run in theatres.
