Ever since his debut years ago, seasoned actor Asif Ali has continued to enthrall the Malayali audience with his endearing performances.

His last outings in theatres were Sarkeet and Abhyanthara Kuttavali. The experienced actor has an array of exciting projects lined up, including the eagerly awaited action flick Tiki Taka, directed by Rohith VS.

In a recent conversation with Club FM, reflecting on his initial struggles in boarding school, Asif Ali said that he used to cry in front of the washbasin for a long time, wondering why his parents had sent him away from home.

"The washbasin was the one place where everyone preferred to break down. I mean, I used to think they loved my brother more and that’s why my parents sent me away. Right from tying shoelaces to aligning shirt buttons — everything was a struggle as a child," the actor recalled.

Talking further, he said, "It was all so emotional to the extent that when I watched Taare Zameen Par years later, I thought that should have been my biopic. The way things are portrayed in the film, I’m sure the writer, Amole Gupte himself, must have gone to a boarding school."

"We could call home only twice a week and could hardly speak for two minutes. It was all difficult!" On a lighter note, the actor said things changed when his first girlfriend came into his life. "I mean, after that, I used to feel sad going home!" Asif Ali said, inviting chuckles.

Meanwhile, Sitaare Zameen Par — which could be considered a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par, also starring Aamir Khan and a bunch of delightful debutants — is currently running successfully in theatres.
