Holi, the festival of colours, is almost here! It’s that time of the year when laughter, fun, and vibrant hues take over. But while you're busy gearing up for the celebrations, don't forget to show your skin some love.
The colours used during Holi can be harsh and drying, so a little pre-care can go a long way in keeping your skin healthy and glowing. Follow these easy skincare tips before stepping out to play!
Exfoliate your skin
Start by giving your skin a fresh start. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells, making it harder for colours to settle into your skin. Use a gentle scrub or a chemical exfoliant with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) about 2-3 days before Holi. This will help your skin breathe and reduce the chances of colour stains sticking around post-celebration.
Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!
Hydration is key. A good moisturiser creates a protective barrier between your skin and the colours, making them easier to wash off later. Apply a rich, nourishing moisturiser all over your body, especially on exposed areas like your face, neck, and hands. The more hydrated your skin, the less damage the colours can do.
Pre-colour treatment for extra protection
Give your skin an added layer of defence by applying a facial oil or serum packed with antioxidants and essential fatty acids. These help to protect your skin from any potential irritation or damage caused by the colours.
Slather on the sunscreen
Holi celebrations often happen under the blazing sun, so don’t skip your sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. Reapply if you plan to be out for a long time – no one wants a sunburn along with their Holi colours.
Oil your hair
Your hair needs protection too. Holi colours can be drying and tough to remove, so apply a generous amount of oil to your hair, focusing on the ends. This acts as a barrier, preventing the colours from sticking and making post-Holi haircare a breeze. Coconut, olive, or almond oil – take your pick.
Show some love to your nails
Don’t forget about your nails. Holi colours can leave stubborn stains, making your nails look dull and discoloured. To avoid this, apply a clear nail polish or a nail oil before heading out. This will create a protective layer and keep your nails looking fresh and healthy.
