The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has successfully demonstrated and tested the powerful Typhoon vehicle at its Transport Battalion in Chandigarh. The event, attended by officials from Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, marks an important step in upgrading the force's vehicles.
Vehicle Factory Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, established in 1969, is dedicated to manufacturing vehicles to meet the transportation needs of the armed forces. The factory is equipped with advanced CNC machines and specialized equipment to produce transmission parts, fabricated items, chassis frames, and bodies, along with vehicle assembly lines.

The Typhoon-K is a strong and adaptable vehicle made for tough terrains. It can do more than just transport troops and cargo; it can also support various technical systems and weapons. The Typhoon is available in both 6x6 and 4x4 models and offers excellent mobility, protection, and firepower.
"6x6" and "4x4" refer to a vehicle's drivetrain, where "6x6" means six wheels are powered and "4x4" means four wheels are powered.
This enhances traction, which is the grip a vehicle's tires have on the driving surface, crucial for safe and efficient movement, especially on slippery or uneven terrain. Off-road capability means the vehicle can handle rough, unpaved surfaces like dirt, mud, and rocks, allowing it to travel where standard vehicles cannot.

Powered by strong diesel engines and advanced automatic transmissions, the vehicle easily handles rough terrain, crosses water, and maintains high speeds on roads. Its hydropneumatic suspension system ensures a comfortable ride on different surfaces.
The Typhoon vehicles can cross water up to 1.50 meters deep without any special preparation and can climb slopes up to 30 degrees.
With 350hp and 450hp diesel engines and automatic transmissions, they can reach speeds of at least 100 km/h on roads and travel up to 1,000 km on a single tank of fuel.
Safety is a top priority for the Typhoon. Its sturdy construction provides excellent protection against mines and ballistic threats.
The crew and troops are safeguarded by special seats and advanced armor, reducing the impact of explosions.
Special seats and other design features minimize the impact on the crew and troops if an 8 kg TNT explosive detonates under any wheel or beneath the vehicle. High ballistic protection is provided by "sandwich" armor, which combines traditional inner steel armor with new-generation outer ceramic armor.
Vehicle Factory Jabalpur will locally produce the KAMAZ Typhoon vehicle under a license from a Russian company.
Adding the Typhoon vehicle to the ITBP fleet shows the force's dedication to improving operational efficiency and the safety of its personnel. This new addition equips the ITBP to handle its challenging tasks with increased confidence and capability.
