Starlink has finally listed the price of its residential plan for India, signalling that Elon Musk’s satellite internet service is nearing launch.

Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service under SpaceX, has taken a major step toward its India debut by publicly listing the price of its residential plan. The update, published on the Starlink India website after months of regulatory movement, signals that the company is preparing for a wider rollout aimed at regions with limited or unreliable broadband access.
The long-awaited pricing confirmation has fuelled speculation that the service is nearing commercial launch, even as the availability map continues to show India as “pending regulatory approval”. With government clearances gradually progressing, industry watchers say Starlink’s entry could reshape India’s satellite communications landscape–especially as it plans to target households directly from day one.
Residential plan priced at ₹8,600 per month
The updated Starlink India website now lists the Residential plan at ₹8,600 per month, with a ₹34,000 one-time fee for the hardware kit. The setup includes a dish, router and cables, all of which the company says can be installed without professional assistance.
Subscribers will receive unlimited data, a 30-day trial period, and a network engineered for more than 99.9% uptime. Starlink notes that the equipment is capable of functioning in harsh weather and is designed to stay online even when local conditions fluctuate–an aspect seen as crucial for rural and hilly regions where fibre networks remain patchy.
This pricing aligns broadly with global Starlink rates, but its significance in India is tied to its goal of reaching remote locations where traditional broadband infrastructure has failed to expand.
Availability still restricted, city-specific plans not visible
Despite the pricing disclosure, Starlink is not yet operational in India. When users search for local plans, the website currently displays: "Starlink Residential isn't available in your region. To receive notifications about its availability and other product updates in the future, enter your email address below."
The platform also suggests that promotional offers may vary by location, though region-wise details remain undisclosed until regulatory approvals are completed.
Competition expected with Jio-SES and Eutelsat OneWeb
Once approvals are finalised, Starlink is expected to compete directly with Jio-SES and Eutelsat OneWeb, forming a three-way contest for India’s emerging satellite broadband market. A major industry focus now is the government’s impending decision on satellite spectrum allocation–whether it will follow an auction route or opt for administrative allotment. The choice will impact all major players preparing for commercial deployment.
Business plan details yet to be announced
While the residential tariff is now public, Starlink has not released information about its Business tier. Details on enterprise-level pricing and service features are expected in the coming weeks as the company refines its India rollout strategy.
Hiring activity hints at an aggressive India expansion
Starlink’s India push has been reflected in recent recruitment trends. In late October, SpaceX posted four openings on LinkedIn for its Bengaluru office–Payments Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst and Tax Manager. The listings described the roles as part of the company’s effort to expand globally.
Reports suggest that SpaceX is preparing to establish ground stations in multiple Indian cities to improve network stability and support service quality ahead of its full commercial launch.
Musk’s remarks signal confidence about India plans
Earlier this month, Elon Musk reiterated the programme’s momentum during a conversation with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on the People by WTF Podcast. He spoke about Starlink’s expanding global footprint and emphasised the importance of bringing the service to markets where reliable internet access remains scarce.
His comments have strengthened expectations that Starlink’s India entry is imminent, especially as the country continues to tackle connectivity gaps in rural and underserved regions.
