Edinburgh, Scotland: An incident described as an “explosion in a boiler room” was reported early Monday at the main office of Rockstar North, the Edinburgh-based studio developing Grand Theft Auto 6, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene.

According to local outlet Edinburgh Live, seven emergency vehicles were dispatched to the Rockstar North building at around 5:02 am local time. Fire and rescue crews remained at the site for more than four hours before leaving after assessing what authorities described as “structural damage to the building,” a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the BBC.

Scottish newspaper The Herald reported that crews have now cleared the scene. The authorities confirmed there were no reported casualties or injuries.

Metro UK reported that Rockstar North has temporarily closed its offices following the incident. The cause of the explosion has not yet been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing.

Rockstar’s Edinburgh headquarters is the company’s primary development hub, having produced every major Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption title. The studio has also recently been in the spotlight over protests linked to worker layoffs, which employees alleged were connected to union membership, claims the company has denied.

GTA 6 release date

The incident comes as Rockstar North continues development of Grand Theft Auto 6, scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, after multiple delays. The company has said the postponement was to allow developers additional time to “refine” the game. Recent reports suggest parts of the game remain under active development.
