Netflix has rolled back mobile casting support, restricting the feature to a small number of devices, including older Chromecast models (3rd gen or older), Google Nest Hub Smart Display, select cast-enabled Vizio TVs, and Compal TVs. The change, reportedly implemented over the last few weeks, has frustrated users who say the feature disappeared without warning.
Previously, users could cast shows and movies from their phones to most smart TVs. However, Netflix updated its support page to clarify that devices with their own remote controls will no longer support casting. Devices without a native Netflix app may still cast content, but smart TVs and other large-screen devices with app support will require the TV’s own remote for navigation.
Removed support for other platforms
Netflix has also removed support for AirPlay on iOS and the Google TV app. According to the updated support page, users on the ad-supported plan or devices not connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the receiver will be unable to use their TV as a display for Netflix content via casting or mirroring.
Netflix has not provided a detailed explanation for removing the cast button, stating only that the change aims to “improve the customer experience.”
Users worldwide are now left navigating Netflix content primarily using their TV remotes, marking a significant shift in how the streaming platform interacts with smart TVs and casting-enabled devices.
