Apple event 2026: What to expect
Apple's “Surprise and shine” event is scheduled for September 9 at 10:30 pm IST. The company has not confirmed the products or specifications that will be announced.
The event can be watched through Apple's website, the Apple TV app and its official YouTube stream.
Unlike recent September launches, Apple is not widely expected to unveil the regular iPhone 18 at this event. Reports instead point to a premium-focused launch featuring the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple's first foldable iPhone, often referred to as the iPhone Ultra.
The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air are reportedly being delayed until spring 2027.
Could the iPhone 18 Pro Max cross Rs 2 lakh?
Estimates vary considerably, and Apple has not confirmed Indian prices.
Current reports put the iPhone 18 Pro Max at roughly Rs 1.55 lakh to Rs 1.70 lakh for the Indian market, while some estimates for higher-storage configurations suggest that the price could cross Rs 2 lakh.
One estimate puts a possible 1TB model at around Rs 2,09,900 and a 2TB version at approximately Rs 2.30 lakh. These figures should be treated as estimates rather than confirmed Apple pricing.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max launched in India at Rs 1,49,900, providing a reference point for potential price increases.
Why could prices rise?
The biggest expected hardware change is Apple's A20 Pro processor, reportedly based on TSMC's 2nm manufacturing process. The new chip is expected to bring improvements in efficiency, GPU performance and memory bandwidth.
Other reported upgrades include 12GB RAM, a custom vapour-chamber cooling system and a variable-aperture main camera.
Higher component costs could contribute to a price increase globally. TrendForce has estimated that prices across the new iPhone range could rise by around 10-20%, although Apple's final pricing remains unknown.
Indian prices also reflect taxes and Apple's regional pricing strategy, so a direct conversion from US prices cannot accurately determine the final Indian retail price.
What could change on the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
The Pro models are expected to retain a design broadly similar to the current generation while receiving substantial internal upgrades.
Reports point to:

- More efficient LTPO+ display technology
- A possible variable-aperture main camera
- A larger battery in the Pro Max

The variable-aperture camera could allow the main lens to control the amount of light entering the sensor, potentially improving low-light photography and giving users greater control over depth of field.
Foldable iPhone could be the biggest surprise
The foldable iPhone could become the headline product of the event.
Reports suggest a book-style design with an approximately 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal screen. The larger display is expected to support ProMotion with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The device could use the A20 Pro chip, 12GB RAM and storage options extending from 256GB to 2TB.
To maintain a thin design, Apple is reportedly considering Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID. The foldable is also expected to have two 48MP rear cameras rather than a dedicated telephoto camera.
TrendForce estimates that the foldable could start at around $2,099-$2,299 in the US, with high-storage versions potentially exceeding $3,000. A price above Rs 2 lakh in India would therefore be possible, but Apple has not confirmed either the global or Indian price.
When can Indians buy the new iPhones?
Apple traditionally opens iPhone preorders on the Friday after its launch event. This year, that would fall on September 11.
Reports suggest Apple could instead open preorders on September 12, while retail availability for the Pro models is expected around September 18.
The foldable could follow a different timetable because of reported production and yield challenges. It may not be widely available until the fourth quarter of 2026.
Neither preorder nor retail dates have been officially confirmed.
Apple Watch, AirPods and software updates
The event is expected to extend beyond iPhones.
Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5 are among the products reportedly in line for announcements. The new watches could receive processor and health-related upgrades, while AirPods 5 may feature an H3 chip and different configurations.
Apple is also expected to announce release dates for its next-generation operating systems, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27.

The September 9 event is also significant because it comes shortly after John Ternus became Apple's CEO on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook. Cook moved to the executive chairman position after 15 years as chief executive.
For Indian consumers, the biggest questions are therefore the final Pro model prices, whether Apple officially unveils its first foldable iPhone and when each new device will actually go on sale.
The Rs 2 lakh figure should not be treated as the confirmed price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The estimates currently circulating cover different storage capacities and are based on leaks, industry projections and expected component costs.
The more significant development may be Apple's potential move into the ultra-premium foldable segment. If the reported pricing materialises, Apple could position the foldable substantially above its conventional Pro Max range.
