Xiaomi has officially confirmed the launch date of its upcoming wide-screen foldable smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, while also offering the first detailed look at its design.

The foldable will be unveiled in China on September 7 at a special launch event, where Xiaomi will also introduce the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max. Both devices will be powered by the company's new Xring O3 processor.

The launch date puts Xiaomi's new foldable just two days ahead of Apple's expected unveiling of its own wide-screen foldable, reportedly called the iPhone Ultra.

Xiaomi 18 Fold design revealed

Alongside confirming the launch date, Xiaomi showcased the 18 Fold in a Nishino Red colour option.

The device features a book-style foldable design with a triple rear-camera setup. The cameras and LED flash are housed inside a horizontal, pill-shaped module on the rear panel.

The phone also appears to have rounded corners and slim bezels around its displays.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the 18 Fold will feature a 5.38-inch cover display and a 7.58-inch foldable inner screen.

The company has also released a video showing the device's internal components and hinge mechanism, offering a closer look at the engineering behind the foldable.

Xiaomi 18 Fold specifications: What is expected

While Xiaomi has confirmed some specifications, several other details remain based on leaks and benchmark listings.

A recent Geekbench listing suggests the foldable could be offered with up to 16GB of RAM and may run Android 17 out of the box.

The smartphone is expected to be powered by Xiaomi's Xring O3 chipset, the successor to the Xring O1. The processor is reportedly based on a deca-core architecture, with its C1-Premium core reaching a maximum clock speed of 4.35GHz.

According to a recent Geekbench AI report, the Xring O3 recorded a single-precision score of 629 and a half-precision score of 799.

Earlier leaks have also pointed to an upgraded hinge that could help the device achieve an IP68 durability rating.

Battery specifications remain unconfirmed, although reports suggest the Xiaomi 18 Fold could pack a 6,000mAh battery with support for 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Some earlier leaks had suggested a 6.56-inch cover display and a 7.76-inch inner screen, both featuring LTPO technology and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. These figures differ from the display sizes Xiaomi has now officially revealed.

The main camera has also been tipped to use a 200-megapixel sensor, while the other two rear cameras are expected to offer telephoto capabilities.

Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max to debut alongside foldable

The Xiaomi 18 Fold will not be the only new mobile device unveiled at the September 7 event.

Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, although details about the tablet remain limited.

The tablet recently appeared on Geekbench under the model number M367FC. It reportedly achieved scores of 3,474 in the single-core test and 13,299 in the multi-core test.

Like the Xiaomi 18 Fold, the tablet is expected to use the new Xring O3 processor.

Xiaomi to unveil new electric SUVs

Xiaomi's September 7 event will also feature new electric vehicles.

The company has confirmed that the Xiaomi N70 Pro, N70 Max and N90 Max EVs will be unveiled at the same event.

CEO Lei Jun has revealed that the vehicles will feature front double-wishbone suspension and rear multi-link suspension.

The SUVs are also expected to offer features including high-speed tyre blowout stability control, emergency water-floating assistance and low-speed driving lights.

With the Xiaomi 18 Fold, Pad 9 Pro Max and new EVs all scheduled for the same event, the September 7 launch is set to be one of the company's biggest product announcements of the year.
