Apple could see a sharp rise in iPhone shipments in India during the 2026 launch quarter, with CyberMedia Research (CMR) estimating shipments could be around 40 per cent higher than the company's average quarterly level.

The expected launch of Apple's first foldable iPhone could further strengthen its position in India's rapidly expanding foldable smartphone segment.

According to preliminary CMR estimates, Apple's average quarterly shipments in India during 2026 are expected to be around 20 per cent, while shipments during the September-November launch quarter could rise to around 40 per cent. The research firm has projected year-on-year growth of about 4 per cent for Apple during the launch quarter.

CMR expects the iPhone 18 Pro to contribute around 8 per cent of Apple's share during the launch quarter, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could account for around 5 per cent.

The anticipated iPhone Fold could capture nearly 24 per cent of India's foldable smartphone market during its launch quarter, according to the estimates.

Apple's entry into the foldable segment comes as the company deals with an ongoing AI talent drain and a generational leadership transition. However, the move could generate strong interest among consumers, particularly Apple loyalists who have been awaiting a foldable device from the company.

Privacy is also expected to remain a key element of Apple's brand positioning. Its Siri relaunch and wider artificial intelligence push, despite arriving about a year later than expected, are being incorporated into core consumer applications, including productivity and camera features.

The company's reported product launch strategy also points to a change in the timing of its iPhone releases. The Pro, Pro Max and anticipated foldable models are expected to lead the festive-season Q4 lineup, while the base iPhone 18 could be introduced during the traditionally weaker Q1 period.

The staggered launch strategy could allow Apple to distribute iPhone revenue more evenly through the fiscal year rather than concentrating sales in a single quarter. IANS
