The iPhone 17 series, like its predecessor, has yet to receive the highly anticipated Siri 2.0 upgrade, leaving users eager for Apple’s smarter AI assistant

Apple’s latest iPhones, including the iPhone 16 and 17 series, have not received the long-awaited Siri 2.0 update, prompting questions about the tech giant’s AI strategy. The company is reportedly redeveloping Siri from scratch, with the smarter assistant expected to launch in early 2026 alongside iOS 26.4.
The anticipated Siri 2.0 promises key enhancements. These include performing cross-app actions, allowing users to complete multiple tasks via voice commands seamlessly. On-screen action and real-time contextual understanding could enable Siri to interact with current screen content, improving its assistant-like capabilities. Additionally, improved natural language and multi-step comprehension would allow Siri to handle complex instructions, such as combining restaurant suggestions, outfit advice, and reminders in a single request.

While Apple has not officially confirmed the release date, the upgrade is expected mid-2026, raising user expectations amid increasing competition from Google and Samsung AI assistants.
The Siri 2.0 rollout is expected to address limitations of the current assistant by integrating advanced AI capabilities. Cross-app actions could allow Siri to operate across multiple iOS applications without requiring repeated prompts. On-screen contextual understanding may function similarly to Google Lens, allowing Siri to interpret visual information and perform related tasks directly. Multi-step natural language understanding is a key anticipated feature, enabling Siri to manage complex commands that combine multiple tasks in one query, leveraging large language models and improved NLP.
The delay in delivering Siri 2.0 has amplified user expectations, as Apple previously teased several features that have yet to materialise. If successfully implemented, these upgrades could significantly enhance the iOS experience and provide Siri with capabilities comparable to rival AI assistants on Pixel and Samsung devices. The development timeline suggests a mid-2026 release, though Apple has not provided an official date.
