Apple is bringing iOS 27 to compatible iPhones in India and other markets today, September 14. While the update introduces a redesigned Siri experience and further changes to the Liquid Glass interface, the first question for many iPhone users is simpler: will their phone get iOS 27?

The new software was first previewed at WWDC 2026 and has since gone through developer and public beta testing. Apple also confirmed at its ‘September and shine’ event last week that the iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone Duo would ship with iOS 27 already installed.

For existing iPhone users, the update will arrive as an over-the-air software update.

The good news for owners of older supported iPhones is that Apple's existing software support range continues with iOS 27.

The update is available for iPhone 11 and newer models, as well as the second- and third-generation iPhone SE.

What changes with iOS 27?

The biggest attraction in iOS 27 is Apple's revamped Siri AI experience.

Apple has introduced a dedicated Siri app where users can start conversations and revisit previous interactions. The new Siri is designed to combine Apple's Foundation Models with Google's Gemini models.

Siri also gains a personal context capability, allowing it to retrieve information from apps and carry out actions across supported apps.

Apple is also expanding Visual Intelligence, allowing users to use the iPhone camera to analyse objects and scenes.

The feature can answer questions about what the camera sees, work with Siri and perform relevant actions. Visual Intelligence can also analyse content displayed on the iPhone's screen.

The Liquid Glass design introduced with iOS 26 is getting additional customisation options in iOS 27.

Users will be able to adjust the intensity of transparent interface elements, giving them more control over the appearance of the redesigned interface.

Apple is also adding more Apple Intelligence capabilities across apps including Photos, Safari, Wallet and Shortcuts.

Parents are also getting more controls with iOS 27. The update adds features including Ask to Buy, Ask to Browse, contact approvals, Time Allowances and schedules.

Apple is also changing several everyday apps and features. The Phone app gets a redesign, while Messages and Mail receive contextual suggestions. Safari can also organise tabs by topics.

How to install iOS 27 on an iPhone

Once the update becomes available for an eligible device, users can install it directly from the iPhone.
