New Delhi: Google on Tuesday announced a series of funding commitments totalling millions of dollars to support India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem, with a focus on healthcare, agriculture, education and sustainable urban development.
The technology giant said it would provide USD 8 million in funding support to India’s AI Centres of Excellence operating across key sectors, alongside a separate commitment of USD 400,000 to aid the development of India’s Health Foundation Model.

According to a company statement, Google will also invest USD 4.5 million in Wadhwani AI to support the development of multilingual, AI-powered applications for use in healthcare and agriculture.
The announcements form part of a broader set of collaborations aimed at strengthening India’s AI capabilities, Google said. The company added that the USD 400,000 allocation would support new partnerships leveraging its ‘MedGemma’ model to build India-specific health foundation models, designed to improve efficiency in healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
As part of these efforts, Ajna Lens will work with experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to develop AI models tailored to Indian use cases in dermatology and outpatient department triaging. Google said the resulting models would contribute to India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and be made accessible across the wider ecosystem.
Researchers, AI specialists and clinicians from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will also explore the use of AI models for broader clinical applications.
Separately, Google announced a founding contribution of USD 2 million to establish a new Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The initiative aims to ensure that global advances in AI reflect and support India’s linguistic diversity, the company said.
