Samsung may significantly expand its foldable smartphone portfolio next year, with a new report claiming that the South Korean technology giant is preparing five foldable phones for 2027.

According to a report by ETNews, citing industry sources, Samsung is expected to introduce successors to its current Galaxy Z lineup alongside a second-generation tri-fold device and another wide-folding smartphone.

The reported 2027 lineup could include:

Galaxy Z Fold 9

Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra

Galaxy Z Flip 9

Galaxy Z TriFold 2

A new Galaxy Z Fold 9-series wide-folding model

Samsung's foldable lineup could get bigger

The reported expansion would represent another major shift in Samsung's foldable strategy. The company traditionally focused on two form factors — a book-style Galaxy Z Fold and a clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip.

Samsung subsequently expanded the range with a wider foldable format and a tri-fold device.

The reported new wide-folding model is said to have already been discussed with Samsung's partners. According to the report, its display could be designed with a greater emphasis on video viewing, potentially giving users a wider screen experience when the device is unfolded.

If the report is accurate, Samsung's 2027 portfolio could span two wide-folding models, a conventional book-style foldable, a clamshell foldable and a tri-fold smartphone.

Samsung's second-generation tri-fold phone is also reportedly in development. The original Galaxy Z TriFold was introduced in select markets in December last year at a dedicated launch event.

The reported Galaxy Z TriFold 2 could instead be unveiled alongside Samsung's other next-generation foldables at the company's Galaxy Unpacked 2027 event.

Samsung has not officially confirmed the reported five-device lineup, launch timeline or specifications. More details are expected to emerge ahead of the company's next-generation foldable launches.
