Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid robot secured the Best Robot award at CES 2026, as announced by CNET and global technology media on Thursday. The recognition marks a milestone for the electric humanoid as it transitions from research prototype to commercial production, positioning Hyundai Motor Group at the forefront of industrial robotics.

CNET cited Atlas' naturalistic walking ability and refined industrial design in selecting it from a field that included Jackery's Solar Mars Bot and Beatbot's RoboTurtle. "Of the many humanoid robots to have made their debut at CES 2026, it's Boston Dynamics' Atlas that stands out as the best of the bunch," CNET noted, highlighting its readiness for industrial deployment.

Production Push and Partnership

Boston Dynamics announced that mass production of Atlas has commenced at its Boston facility, with all 2026 units already allocated to Hyundai and Google DeepMind. The company revealed plans to manufacture 30,000 Atlas robots annually by 2028, a target that represents the most aggressive production timeline in the humanoid robotics sector.

A partnership with Google DeepMind, announced during Hyundai's CES keynote, will integrate Gemini Robotics AI foundation models into Atlas to enhance its cognitive capabilities and human interaction. "We're looking to integrate our cutting-edge AI foundation models with Boston Dynamics' new Atlas robots," said Carolina Parada, senior director of robotics at Google DeepMind.

Factory Floor Timeline

Hyundai plans to deploy Atlas at its Metaplant America facility in Savannah, Georgia, starting in 2028 for parts sequencing operations. By 2030, the robots will expand to component assembly and more complex tasks involving repetitive motions and heavy loads.

The production-ready Atlas features 56 degrees of freedom with fully rotational joints, can lift up to 50 kilograms, and operates in temperatures from -20°C to 40°C. Its autonomous battery-swapping capability enables continuous 24/7 operation.

"Receiving the Best of CES award in the robotics category is a tremendous honour for Boston Dynamics," said CEO Robert Playter. "Atlas is the most advanced robot we have ever built, and this recognition underscores our team's dedication to bringing a world-class humanoid robot closer to market".
