Samsung Display and Intel have developed SmartPower HDR OLED technology, reducing laptop power consumption by up to 22% and enhancing battery life, announced at CES 2026.

Samsung Display has announced a breakthrough at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, revealing that it has jointly developed an advanced energy-efficient OLED display technology with Intel to significantly improve laptop battery life and performance.
The Samsung Electronics subsidiary confirmed that the newly developed SmartPower HDR technology can reduce power consumption by up to 22 per cent compared with existing OLED laptop displays, while still delivering premium HDR visuals, vivid brightness, and enhanced picture quality.
According to the company, the technology optimises brightness and dynamically adjusts voltage based on the content displayed, unlike traditional HDR systems that maintain fixed high voltage levels, resulting in unnecessary power loss. Users can save up to 22 per cent of power during routine tasks, including web browsing, and around 17 per cent while streaming high-resolution videos or gaming.
Samsung Display said the innovation is expected to play a crucial role as AI-powered laptops and AI PCs become more mainstream, improving energy efficiency and extending battery performance without compromising display quality.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of CES 2026, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung held a closed-door meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in Las Vegas, fuelling speculation about an expanded partnership in autonomous driving technology, AI-powered mobility solutions, and next-generation vehicle innovation. Their meeting follows a previous interaction in Seoul last October during Huang’s visit to South Korea for the APEC CEO Summit.
