In a discussion on the topic, 'let us welcome women Directors', 'Great Indian Kitchen' director Geo Baby stated that religion has restricted women of all walks for ages.

The other panellists included Vidhu Vincent,Director of the movies, Manhole, Stand Up, and Kavya Prakash, director of the movie, 'Vanku'. Parshathy J Nath was the moderator of the Session.

The much discussed and accepted woman oriented movie 'The great Indian Kitchen 'was conceived when the Director had to play the role of a homemaker for domestic reasons. On the second day of the role change, Jeo Baby felt disheartened and unhappy about the never - ending, unrewarding experience of  living in and making a kitchen alive . He spoke to the women of his home and found that the feeling was alike and that they have been conditioned to the system over the years. The protagonist of the movie took birth in his mind with his experience of turning out to be a woman .Except for the physical change , Baby felt one with a woman. It grew with his kitchen life experience and the work eventually turned out to be the most popular movie of the times.

Kavya Prakash, took two years to complete the pre production work for the movie. Along with her script writer Shafna Mohammed, she could wade through the struggles of Rasiya,  the lead character of her movie as they both could share feminine experiences and feelings.

She did extensive research on the topic and believes that content matters over any other attribute in creating cinema. Her experiences as Associate Director helped her to handle the technical aspects of direction  with confidence.

Director Vidhu Vincent shared the battle she had to fight in quitting a financially sound job to land up in the uncertain genre, cinema. Her parents supported her by producing her first movie but her further progress was hindered as producers demanded for a commercial subject other than women oriented story. With the success of her first movie and with the changing scenario, she got acceptance. This coincided with the cause of the inception of WCC.

Jeo Baby and Kavya Prakash observed that  the lead roles in both of their movies led simple and good lives but an additional demand from their side for an aspiration different from the accepted and existing norm, that converted them to warriors.

Their dreams and wishes made them extraordinary and made their life difficult.

Director Jeo Baby said that he admired veteran director K G George and in fact he had to work hard to keep the movie' The great Indian Kitchen ' from getting influenced with K G George's work. Still he could feel shades of 'Adaminte Variyellu' in the technical aspects of the movie at certain junctures.

The discussion concluded on the positive observation that Malayalam cinema has opened doors to women oriented movies and feminine perspectives, irrespective of the gender of the Director.
