Global leaders from government, business, civil society and academia have assembled in Davos for the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting to hold forward-looking discussions on pressing global challenges and define shared priorities.

According to the WEF, the meeting underscores the need for bold, collective action at a time of heightened global uncertainty. The five-day event, running from January 19 to 23, is structured around five key global challenges where public-private dialogue and multi-stakeholder cooperation are seen as essential for meaningful progress.

The Forum noted that growth, resilience and innovation will act as cross-cutting imperatives, shaping how leaders navigate current complexities while unlocking future opportunities.

Who all are participating from India?

India is set to have a prominent presence at the gathering, with several Union ministers, chief ministers from key states and more than 100 chief executives of leading Indian companies attending the summit in the Swiss Alps. With India retaining its position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, the country’s political and business leadership is expected to make a strong pitch to attract global investment.

Among the Union ministers participating in the Davos discussions are Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and IT; Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development; Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Renewable Energy; and K. Rammohan Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation.

Several chief ministers are also attending the WEF meeting to promote investment opportunities in their respective states. These include Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra, N. Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, A. Revanth Reddy of Telangana, Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, Hemant Soren of Jharkhand and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam.

This year’s Forum begins under the theme ‘Spirit of Dialogue’, against the backdrop of global economic uncertainty fuelled by US tariff-related tensions and rising geopolitical risks. The meeting will also see the participation of leading figures in artificial intelligence, including Jensen Huang, Satya Nadella, Demis Hassabis and Dario Amodei, among others.
