Munir’s Tehran meetings focused on regional stability and Iran’s 14-point agreement with the US, as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high.
Washington DC: US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir last week, ahead of Munir’s visit to Tehran on Monday.
A source familiar with the conversation confirmed to CNN that Trump and Munir discussed Iran during the call.

Munir meets Iranian officials in Tehran
During his visit, Munir met Iranian officials, including Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
Rezaei said the United States must change its behaviour and take practical steps to implement the terms of a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), according to IRIB.
He also highlighted Iran’s position on security in the Strait of Hormuz and referred to Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate the implementation of the agreement.

Iran accuses US of violating commitments
Earlier on Monday, Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also met Munir in Tehran.
Ghalibaf criticised what he described as repeated US breaches of commitments under the 14-point MoU signed in June to end hostilities in West Asia and establish channels for technical discussions, including on the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.
According to a statement shared by Ghalibaf on Telegram, the two sides discussed what Iran described as “numerous instances” of US breaches in implementing the agreement.
"The commitments of the parties in the Memorandum of Understanding are clear, and it was America that, by breaching its commitments, prevented the establishment of stability in the region and created another reason for distrust in this country," Ghalibaf said, according to the statement.
He said Tehran remained committed to implementing the MoU despite external pressure. "We are pursuing the implementation of the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, and it is America that must adhere to its commitments based on the Memorandum of Understanding," the statement said.

Munir pledges efforts for regional stability
During the meeting, Munir said he would continue his efforts to restore stability in the region, according to the Iranian statement.
His Tehran visit comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Iran and the US, with the discussions focusing on regional stability and the implementation of the June agreement.
