Israeli officials maintain that Hamas retains significant military capability, estimating the group still has around 20,000 fighters and approximately 60,000 Kalashnikov rifles in Gaza.

Gaza Strip: The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Sunday claimed a fresh ceasefire violation in northern Gaza, saying its troops identified and struck militants who crossed a designated security line and posed an imminent threat.
In a post on X, the IDF said, "CEASEFIRE VIOLATION: IDF troops operating in northern Gaza identified several terrorists who crossed the Yellow Line and approached the troops, posing an imminent threat to them. Following identification, the IAF struck the terrorists and eliminated one of the terrorists in order to remove the threat."

The claim comes a day after Israel’s military reported similar incidents along the Gaza border. On Saturday, the IDF alleged two separate ceasefire violations in both northern and southern Gaza.
“In 2 separate incidents in both northern and southern Gaza, IDF troops identified terrorists who crossed the Yellow Line, posing an imminent threat to their safety. In response, in both incidents, the troops eliminated the terrorists in order to remove the threats posed,” the IDF said in another post.
The latest allegations come amid a fragile, US-brokered ceasefire in Gaza, which is currently in its second phase. This phase envisages the demilitarisation of the territory, including the disarmament of Hamas, along with a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Hamas, an Islamist movement that has waged an armed struggle against what it sees as Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, has rejected disarmament as a red line.
However, it has indicated it could consider handing over its weapons to a future Palestinian governing authority.
The current war began after Hamas launched a deadly cross-border raid into Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023.
Israeli officials maintain that Hamas retains significant military capability, estimating the group still has around 20,000 fighters and approximately 60,000 Kalashnikov rifles in Gaza.
