Islamabad: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar sustained a minor shoulder injury after slipping during an official reception, but continued to carry out key diplomatic engagements.
The incident took place on Sunday at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Dar was hosting Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty during a high-profile quadrilateral dialogue. The meeting brought together top diplomats from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt to deliberate on the evolving situation in West Asia.
According to officials, Dar slipped while inviting Abdelatty to the stage. The moment, captured on video, showed the senior leader briefly losing balance before quickly regaining composure and proceeding with the ceremonial photo session, an image that has since gained traction online.
Despite the fall, Dar showed no immediate visible discomfort and continued to attend back-to-back meetings throughout the day.
Medical check confirms hairline fracture
Later in the evening, following persistent advice from family members, Dar underwent a medical evaluation. His son, Ali Dar, shared an update stating that X-rays confirmed a “hairline fracture” in the shoulder.
He added that while the injury is minor, pain management and precautionary care will be required over the coming days. Dar had reportedly been using pain relief medication to stay active during the day’s engagements.
A senior figure in the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Dar remains central to Pakistan’s domestic and international policy framework. He is also a close associate of Nawaz Sharif and a prominent leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
