Former US president Joe Biden’s cancer has spread further despite treatment, with his son Hunter Biden revealing that the disease has metastasized into his bones and beyond.

Hunter Biden shared the update during a recent interview with the BBC, describing his father’s condition as “very painful” and “very debilitating”.

“The cancer has spread, is metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said in the interview published late Friday by BBC Newsnight.

“It’s very painful, and it’s very debilitating in many respects, but he’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing... he so believes in this country,” he added.

Hunter Biden became emotional at times while speaking about his father’s health, saying it was difficult to watch him deal with the illness.

“It’s really, really hard, and it’s really sad to watch,” he said.

Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis

Biden, 83, revealed in May 2025, about four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.

He subsequently began treatment, including radiation and hormone therapy. Last month, while announcing plans for his upcoming memoir, Biden said his treatment was going “really well”.

The latest comments from his son indicate that the cancer has since progressed despite the treatment.

Biden’s health during 2024 presidential race

Biden’s health had been a subject of sustained scrutiny during his presidency, particularly as he became the oldest-ever US president.

At 81, he sought a second term in the 2024 presidential election. However, his campaign came under intense pressure following his debate performance against Donald Trump in June 2024.

Amid growing pressure from fellow Democrats, Biden withdrew from the presidential race and was replaced as the party’s candidate by then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump subsequently defeated Harris in the election.
