Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel and Iran “should make a deal, and will make a deal,” asserting he could once again play the role of peacemaker, just as he had done between India and Pakistan.

In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump wrote: "Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make, in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!"

Earlier, Trump had claimed that he was behind the ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the recent tensions following Operation Sindoor. However, India later clarified that no external parties were involved in the development.

Trump referred to his past efforts to reduce tensions between India and Pakistan, claiming that leveraging U.S. trade helped the nuclear-armed neighbours avoid escalation.

With conflict flaring between Israel and Iran, Trump added that he is “taking calls and holding meetings” behind the scenes.

"Likewise, we will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place," he wrote. The president's remarks come amid intensified hostilities in the Middle East following Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, and retaliatory missile launches from Iran.

Meanwhile, Trump told a news network that it remains possible the United States will become involved in the Iran-Israel conflict and that he would be "open" to Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin being a mediator.

"It's possible we could get involved" in the ongoing battle between the Middle East arch-foes, Trump said in an interview, according to ABC News.
