Tel Aviv: The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Sunday said its defensive systems were activated after detecting missile launches from Iran, urging citizens across the country to stay near shelters and avoid public gatherings.

“The Home Front Command has now instructed residents across the country to remain close to protected spaces. Movement in public areas should be minimised, and public gatherings must be avoided,” the IDF said in a statement.

Earlier today, Iranian media reported fresh explosions in central Tehran, with the semi-official Tasnim news agency sharing video footage of smoke rising near Valiasr Square. Debris and shattered glass were visible at the scene, fueling fears of an escalating conflict between the two nations.

Iranian authorities also updated the death toll from Friday and Saturday’s Israeli strikes to at least 128, including women and children, with around 900 others injured. The attacks reportedly targeted nuclear and military facilities, killing several top Iranian generals and scientists.

The situation has raised concerns about a prolonged conflict, especially after Iran claimed Israel also struck two major oil refineries, potentially threatening the country’s energy infrastructure and disrupting global markets.

Israel, meanwhile, warned Iranians to evacuate areas near arms production sites, in a sign that further strikes could be imminent.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Iran would pay "a very heavy price" for killing Israeli civilians, as the two foes kept up intense fighting.

"Iran will pay a very heavy price for the premeditated murder of civilians, women and children," Netanyahu said during a visit to the site of a missile strike on a residential building in the coastal city of Bat Yam, near Tel Aviv.

Iran's missile attacks on Israel Saturday night and early Sunday killed 10 people and wounded more than 200, according to first responders, bringing the total number of fatalities from Iranian strikes to 13.

Missiles that broke through Israel's air defence system also caused damage and destruction in several areas, including Bat Yam, Tel Aviv and in the country's north.
