Mumbai: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, has published a revised maximum retail price (MRP) list for 543 brands of anti-cancer medicines.

The revised prices will take effect on November 9, 2026. The list is based on information submitted by pharmaceutical companies up to October 27, 2026, and will be updated as manufacturers provide revised prices for non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs.

The revision follows the government's move to rationalise trade margins on 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs, announced by the NPPA on October 17, 2026. The measure aims to address excessive trade margins and improve the affordability and accessibility of cancer treatment.

Some medicines listed by the NPPA have substantial differences between their earlier and revised MRPs.

What the price revision means

The revised list follows the NPPA's October 17 announcement introducing trade margin rationalisation for 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs. The measure aims to address excessive margins across the supply chain and make selected cancer medicines more affordable.

The policy does not mean every cancer medicine will have the same percentage reduction. The revised price depends on the specific medicine, brand and pack size. The 543-brand list reflects the revised prices reported by manufacturers, while the trade-margin measure covers 137 identified drugs. These figures refer to different categories and should not be treated as interchangeable.

The medicines covered by the policy include immunotherapy drugs used to treat more than 20 types of cancer, Denosumab for certain patients with breast or prostate cancer, Pegfilgrastim to help prevent neutropenia in cancer patients, and Bevacizumab, which is used to treat certain cancers, including colorectal, ovarian and cervical cancers.

Patients and caregivers should check the revised MRP for the exact brand and pack size prescribed to them. Pharmacists and hospital pharmacies can help confirm the applicable price before purchase.
