Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that Tehran would halt its military operations if Israel ended its airstrikes by 4am local time. The statement marked Iran’s first official response to US President Donald Trump’s earlier claim of a ceasefire agreement between the two nations.

Posting on the social media platform X at 4:16am Tehran time, Araghchi wrote: “As of now, there is NO agreement on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”

He added that “the final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later,” suggesting Iran’s stance remains flexible and dependent on Israel’s actions.

The comment follows a weekend of intense escalation, including US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and retaliatory missile attacks by Iran. Despite President Trump's declaration on Monday of a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, fighting has continued into the early hours of Tuesday, with Israeli strikes hitting targets in Tehran and other cities.
