Islamabad: Imran Khan’s health in jail has sparked growing concern, with his sister Aleema Khanum criticising the authorities over his treatment and access to medical care.

Khan has been imprisoned for over 800 days, and his condition has reportedly worsened, prompting calls for urgent specialist attention.

In a post on X, Khanum demanded that her brother be examined by specialist doctors at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, in the presence of his personal physician, Dr Asim Yousaf, and a family representative. She expressed frustration after the government reportedly rejected the names proposed by the family.

“Our demand has been clear from the beginning: Imran Khan has to be examined and treated by specialist doctors in the presence of his personal doctor along with a family member,” she wrote. She added that both names proposed by the family—Uzma Khan and their cousin Nausherwan Burki—were refused, raising questions over the authorities’ refusal to allow qualified family members to be present.

The latest medical examination of Khan took place at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Sunday, sources told Dawn. A team of five doctors conducted an hour-long eye check-up, collected blood samples, and measured his blood pressure. The examination followed a Supreme Court order after Khan claimed on 12 February that his right eye had only 15 per cent vision. The court directed the formation of a medical board to assess his condition and allowed him to speak with his children before 16 February.

PTI Alleges Secret Move of Imran Khan to Hospital

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that its chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being secretly moved from jail to a hospital, calling the development a serious violation of his fundamental rights and warning that it could endanger his life.

The party alleged that Khan’s family has not been informed about the reported transfer. PTI demanded that any medical examination or treatment must be conducted in the presence of his personal physicians and at least one family member.

In a statement, the party said: “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf expresses grave concern over reports and speculations suggesting a plan to secretly shift our leader Imran Khan to a hospital for treatment without taking his family into confidence. Such an act is a blatant violation of both fundamental human rights and prevailing legal requirements.”

PTI also noted that Pakistan’s jail rules require authorities to notify family members and doctors before carrying out any medical examination, treatment, or transfer of a prisoner. The statement comes amid ongoing concerns over Khan’s multiple health issues, including impaired vision in his right eye.

Despite earlier reports suggesting he might be transferred to a hospital, no transfer had occurred by Sunday afternoon. At 3:45 pm, Khan’s sister Noreen Khanum posted on X that an ambulance had arrived to move him, but added: “This is unacceptable to us without us and Khan sahib’s personal doctors being taken into confidence.”

The jail superintendent dismissed reports of the transfer as a “rumour,” stating that the medical team was conducting tests to decide whether Khan needed hospital treatment or could continue care within the jail.
