Beijing: A deadly fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in Shantou, Guangdong province, on Tuesday night, claiming the lives of 12 people. According to state media, the blaze started around 9:20 pm and was brought under control by 10:00 pm.

Emergency teams quickly responded to the scene, working to evacuate residents and extinguish the fire. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.

The incident follows a major fire last month in Hong Kong, which killed 160 people after multiple high-rise residential towers were engulfed. The latest tragedy has reignited concerns about fire safety and building regulations in the region.

Shantou, a city in southern China’s Guangdong province, witnessed a deadly residential fire late Tuesday. The four-storey building caught fire around 9:20 pm local time, and firefighting units managed to extinguish the blaze within approximately 40 minutes. Twelve residents lost their lives, while others were evacuated safely.

The incident draws attention to fire safety protocols in densely populated urban areas. Guangdong province has been on alert following the catastrophic high-rise fires in Hong Kong last month, which resulted in 160 fatalities. Authorities have urged stricter fire safety inspections and increased public awareness to prevent similar tragedies.
