Florida: A small plane executed a dramatic emergency landing on Interstate-95 in Merritt Island, Florida, on Monday evening, coming down on top of a moving vehicle before sliding to a stop on the roadway.

Officials confirmed the aircraft, a fixed-wing Beechcraft 55, had reported engine trouble shortly before attempting the landing at around 5.45 pm.

According to local authorities, the plane struck a 2023 Toyota Camry during the descent. The two men on board, both 27 years old and from Orlando and Temple Terrace respectively, escaped without injury. The driver of the Camry, a 57-year-old woman, was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Footage shared online shows the plane descending towards the freeway as the Camry travels in its lane. The aircraft makes contact with the vehicle before sliding ahead and coming to rest on the road surface. The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed the details of the emergency landing.

Emergency crews responded quickly to secure the scene and assess those involved. Investigations into the engine trouble and circumstances of the crash-landing are under way.
