Dubai-based carrier Emirates has temporarily suspended all operations to and from Dubai following multiple airspace closures across the Middle East, as regional tensions escalated sharply after the United States and Israel launched major strikes on Iran.

The military operation, announced by President Donald Trump as “major combat operations”, targeted sites across Iran, including areas near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran. Iranian state media reported strikes nationwide, with smoke seen rising from the capital. It was not immediately clear whether the 86-year-old leader was present at the targeted locations.

In retaliation, Iran targeted a US military base in Bahrain, according to video footage circulating online showing plumes of smoke rising from the site. Missiles were reportedly intercepted over Qatar, while explosions were heard in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and parts of Saudi Arabia, signalling a widening regional confrontation.

Amid the rapidly deteriorating security situation, several Gulf states closed or restricted their airspace, prompting widespread flight suspensions and rerouting. Emirates said it is actively monitoring developments and engaging with relevant authorities.

The airline urged passengers to check its travel updates and flight status pages before heading to the airport. It apologised to customers affected by the disruption and said it is assisting them with rebooking, refunds or alternative travel arrangements.

Emirates added that the safety and security of its passengers and crew remain its highest priority.
