The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) on Sunday (April 26) issued a maximum temperature warning, placing most districts under a yellow alert. The warning is valid for April 26 and 27, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a sharp rise in mercury levels across the state.

The alert was issued at 1:00 PM on Sunday (April 26).

District-wise forecast shows temperatures nearing 40°C

Palakkad is expected to record the highest temperatures, with isolated places likely to touch 40°C. Kollam is forecast at 39°C. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode may see temperatures around 38°C.

In Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod, the mercury is expected to hover near 37°C. Thiruvananthapuram is projected to reach 36°C, which is 3 to 4°C above seasonal normal levels.

Yellow alert issued amid hot and humid conditions

A yellow alert, which advises residents to “Watch and Be Updated,” has been issued for Palakkad, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram.

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely across all these districts, except hilly areas, on April 26 and 27. The KSDMA notes that the combination of heat and humidity may also trigger light rainfall in some hilly regions during this period. Plains and coastal belts are expected to remain under sustained discomfort through Monday.
