Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan has reiterated his election promise on allowing non-dangerous vehicle modifications, saying the UDF government will implement what was assured in its manifesto, even as his earlier remarks on the issue continue to circulate widely on social media.

Responding to questions during a press conference ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Satheesan said the coalition remains committed to the promises made to voters, particularly youth-related concerns such as vehicle customisation.

“We have come to fulfil what we said. We have come to fulfil the aspirations of the people and the desires of the youth. Is it just something said to get votes?” CM Satheesan said.

The issue had earlier gained attention after a social media reel featuring Satheesan went viral during the election campaign, where he spoke in support of regulated vehicle modifications.

In the video, he had said that modifications that are not dangerous should be permitted, while stressing that safety must not be compromised.

“We have said that in the manifesto. Modifications made to vehicles in a non-dangerous way are not wrong. It only becomes wrong when done in a dangerous manner. That will not be allowed. Let them do other modifications. Isn’t it a big desire for youngsters?” he had said.

He had also noted that youth groups had supported relief efforts during floods and said they had later faced unnecessary harassment, adding that this was taken into account in the UDF’s policy approach.

The earlier reel reportedly garnered significant traction online during the election period, drawing millions of views and widespread discussion on whether Kerala’s vehicle modification rules would be relaxed under a new government.

With Satheesan now set to assume office as Chief Minister, his reaffirmation of the promise has once again brought the issue into public debate, particularly among youth groups and automobile enthusiasts awaiting clarity on the policy framework.
