Thiruvananthapuram: The government of Kerala here on Tuesday has appointed a two-member committee to resolve the ongoing issue of shortage of Plus One seats in schools across the northern Kerala region of Malabar.
The committee members are the Regional Deputy Director (RDD), Malappuram, and Joint Director of Higher Secondary Education. The body will hold inspections to check where to allot additional batches.
The decision was taken after a discussion held between leaders of student unions and the Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the government by July 5. Decisions regarding the admission process will be taken based on its report.
The Education Minister, while addressing the media, informed that the seat shortages are currently faced by students in Malappuram, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts.
There is a shortage of 7,054 seats in Malappuram district alone. In Palakkad, 1,757 and in Kasaragod, 250 seats. The Minister stated that the issue would be resolved through supplementary allotment.
He also informed the media that considering the ongoing issue in Malappuram, a new batch will be allotted and thus admissions will be given to all Plus One aspirants.
Students who currently miss classes will be provided bridge courses.
