Thiruvananthapuram: Alleging rampant corruption charges, the UDF demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and has initiated protests. ‘Padayatra’ (journey by foot) will be organised in all constituencies between October 10 and 15. Convenor M.M Hasan said that the protest titled ‘Ration kada muthal secretariat vare’ (From ration shops to secretariat) will also involve a blockade of the Secretariat on October 18.
The UDF coordination committee which met on Friday, decided to organise public hearings in all 140 constituencies with the aim of preparing a charge sheet against the government as well as presenting the realistic picture of a collapsing Kerala to the people. This will be held after the CPM’s publicity tour where the Chief Ministers and other ministers will travel across the state to meet the people.
AI camera scam, irregular financial dealings of Veena Vijayan’s firm, and bringing an end to the increasing polarization of the police force are some of the issues that the UDF aims to highlight. The government has failed to pay the commission amount to ration shops for providing free kits during the Covid period. UDF also demanded a resolution of the supply issue in the public distribution sector.
Collaborative meeting on October 16
In the context of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in the Karuvannur bank case, UDF said that there is no need for a unified protest along with the left government against the Central encroachment upon the cooperative sector. This decision has been made after disregarding the opinions of some constituent parties.
At the same time, UDF representatives participated in the seminars and meetings organized by the Department of Cooperation. A gathering of associates will be convened in Thiruvananthapuram on October 16 under the aegis of the cooperatives protection forum.
