Kozhikode: Visuals have emerged showing UDF MP Shafi Parambil getting injured in a police lathi charge during a protest march in Perambra on Friday. The video shows the MP being struck on the head with a lathi, contradicting the CPM’s and police claims that he was not injured due to police excess.

The incident took place near the bus stand at Perambra town around 7.30 pm on Friday. Shafi, who sustained injuries on his face, hands, and legs during the clash, was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode the next day. Two bones in his nose were found fractured, and he underwent surgery the same night, according to Dr Abhilash, ENT surgeon at Baby Memorial Hospital.

The police had earlier claimed that they did not use lathis and only resorted to tear gas to disperse the agitated UDF workers. The clash reportedly broke out over issues related to the union elections at Perambra Government CKG College, leading to injuries to MP Shafi Parambil and others.
