Kozhikode, Kerala: The Congress has levelled fresh allegations against Kerala police in connection with the violent clash that erupted during a UDF protest march at Perambra, claiming that it was the police who hurled an explosive device.

The Kozhikode District Congress Committee has released video footage purportedly supporting the claim.

According to the party, police not only used tear gas but also threw grenades, leading to chaos during the protest.

The incident happened last Friday evening during a UDF hartal protest when police stopped the rally in Perambra town, resulting in a violent confrontation.

Earlier, five UDF workers were arrested in connection with the clash, where police alleged that protesters had attacked officers and thrown explosives. Police had initially filed a case against around 700 people, naming MP Shafi Parambil as the first accused. A second FIR was later registered, citing video evidence of explosive materials being thrown.

The controversy intensified after visuals showed Shafi Parambil sustaining injuries during a police lathi charge. The incident drew widespread criticism of police action.
