Kalavur (Alappuzha): Two persons, including a block panchayat member, lost their lives and four others sustained injuries after a car went out of control and crashed into an electric pole and later into a coconut tree.
The victims were identified as M Rajeesh (37), chairman of the Aryad Block Panchayat Health and Education standing committee, and Ananthu (28).

The car, driven by another person identified as Ashwin T, lost control and veered off the road, first smashing into a power pole, then crossing a stream, and finally crashing into a coconut tree in the field of a resident, Vijayakumar. In the impact of the hitting, the wall of the house was also damaged.
Local residents, alerted by the loud noise of the crash, swiftly responded by breaking open the car to rescue the trapped occupants. Despite their prompt efforts, Rajeesh and Ananthu succumbed to their injuries shortly after being moved to a private hospital in Alappuzha.
The injured passengers – Ashwin, Akhil, Sujith and Suresh – were taken to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Rajeesh was an active member of the CPM, member of the Valavanadu local committee and is also serving as the DYFI secretary of the Mararikulam area committee. He is survived by father Maniyappan, mother Omana and sister Rani.
Another victim Ananthu was an employee of Coirfed. He is survived by mother Bina and brother Arjun. His father, Omanakuttan, had passed away earlier.
