Kochi: The victims of the Tripunithura firecracker unit blast may approach the high court seeking compensation. Their demand is to appoint a special commission to calculate the damage and decide upon the compensation. R Das, a member of the action council, told Mathrubhumi News that if those responsible for the blast do not offer a suitable compensation, they will proceed with legal action.

“There is still no clarity on who is responsible for the blast. The police refused action stating that a license had been issued. The government says that the fireworks display was not legally sanctioned. Even after three days of the incident, there is no clarity about the compensation. The houses in the vicinity were cleaned by voluntary organisations,” Das said.

Meanwhile, the district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the explosion at the firecracker unit. Sub Collector K. Meera will lead the investigation. All four arrested in connection with the case have been remanded. The death toll in the blast has risen to two. Anil (49), Adarsh (29) and Anandan (69), Kollam natives who were seriously injured are undergoing treatment at Kalamassery Medical College ICU. One person has been shifted to the Thrissur Medical College.
