
Kochi: A person undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the blast at firecracker storage unit in Tripunithura died on the Monday.
Divakaran (55) has become the second casualty as a result of the blast that took place in the early hours of Monday. He had been undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the medical college here.
Vishnu, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, passed away shortly after the explosion. Meanwhile, Anil (49), Madhusoodhanan (60), Adarsh (29), and Anandhan (69) are undergoing treatment for critical injuries at the medical college. A total of 16 people suffered injuries in the blast. Besides medical college, the injured are admitted to the General Hospital in Ernakulam.
The firecrackers for the Puthiyakavu Temple festival exploded when they were being unloaded from a vehicle to be stored at the warehouse. The blast damaged two vehicles and about 25 houses near the storage unit.
